The profitability of the Italian pig farming sector improved again in July. In particular, in the case of the closed cycle, the Crefis index (www.crefis.it) rose by +1.2% at the cyclical level and by +7.8% at the trend level. As in the past, the profitability of the sector was supported by the fall in feed costs and the recovery in the price of heavy slaughter animals. In fact, in July the price of heavy slaughter pigs destined for PDO products increased by 1.6% compared to June, reaching a value of 1.928 Euro/kg, despite a negative trend change (-13%).
