Lorenzo Beretta: reduce VAT so as not to burden consumers' pockets
"The sector is facing a major challenge, which risks compromising the economic stability of companies and a significant number of jobs in the entire supply chain. Extraordinary resources are urgently needed to finance structural interventions and re-establish normal market conditions, restoring healthy competitiveness to companies."
This is how the President of ASSICA (Association of Meat and Cured Meat Industry), Lorenzo Beretta, urges the government in view of the next budget law. The Italian cured meat sector, we recall, has been losing 20 million euros in exports every month since January 2022 due to the presence of ASF on national soil, a situation that has led numerous third countries to block imports of our products as a precaution to avoid the accidental entry of the virus which, although it only infects animals, does not provide a cure or vaccine, forcing the decimation of thousands of even healthy animals to stop the spread of the disease.
