On the morning of Saturday 16 March, the National Organisation of Cheese Tasters (ONAF), Italy's only cheese-tasting association, awarded the municipality of Campo Tures with the prestigious “City of Cheese” plaque, giving the following motivation: “Sand in Taufers - Campo Tures is a town that is at the heart of the cheese-making tradition of the entire Aurina Valley, the main expression of which is Graukäse, produced by nine rural dairies and several summer Alpine dairies. The town has become a point of reference for the promotion and valorisation of such production. One only has to think of the biennial Käsefestival, now in its 15th year, the Graukäsetage event with a competition for Graukäse producers, and finally the involvement of youth centres in the search for cheese and other genuine and healthy products”.
Campo Tures is the 25th municipality in Italy to receive it and the first in 2024.
