Slaughter and breeding pig prices rose further in March, reaching an all-time high.
This trend led to an improvement in the profitability of Italian pig breeders, which rose to levels even higher than those reached in the same period last year.
On the contrary, the profitability of slaughterers decreased, remaining at lower levels than in 2022.
In spite of an increase in fresh leg prices, ham maturers saw an improvement in their profitability (with the exception of light PDO ham maturers), thanks to the growth in cured ham prices, which again reached the highest levels of their respective historical series. However, current profitability levels remain below those of March 2022.
