Industrial emissions: Sicilians (UNICEB), satisfaction with the exclusion of beef cattle farms

It is recognition to the meat supply chain for having contributed over the last few decades to a considerable improvement in the management of climate-altering emissions from livestock production

"Great satisfaction with the exclusion of cattle farms from the obligations deriving from the directive on industrial emissions, initially placed on the same level as large industries as regards the level of pollution and emissions into the atmosphere. This is recognition of the meat supply chain for having contributed over the last few decades to a considerable improvement in the management of climate-altering emissions from livestock production. In 2018, the Italian livestock sector emitted 19,872 T of CO2eq, equal to 65% of total emissions from agriculture and only 5.2% of total national ones. says President Siciliani. "I thank all the MEPs of the Agriculture Commission for the excellent work with a particular mention for Paolo De Castro who already in the past months had accepted our requests during the work of the last General Assembly and announcing a battle in the European.”

“We certainly expect strong opposition to this amendment but we are sure that our European representatives will be able to defend this position which not only re-evaluates all the Italian and European livestock supply chains in the economy of the Community objectives in terms of reducing emissions and combating pollution but it gives more strength to scientific evidence and less to ideological stances”.
