Siciliani: 'The amendment to the Drought Decree authorising field trials of assisted evolution techniques will allow Italy a historic leap forward in the field of research applied to agriculture'
"The amendment to the Drought Law Decree which authorizes experimentation in the field of assisted evolution techniques will allow Italy to make a historic leap forward in the field of research applied to agriculture, becoming a leader in Europe", the immediate comment by Carlo Siciliani, president of UNICEB. "The unanimous approval is then the sign of the great work that the President of the Agriculture Commission of the Senate Luca De Carlo, the Honorable Raffaele Nevi and Gian Marco Centinaio, the three first signatories of the bills, have produced in the Commission by converging the policy on the need for innovation and research to be considered indispensable to guarantee a truly sustainable future for national agricultural production in a scenario of climate change, and not only that, so worrying. A heartfelt thanks therefore to the President of the Agriculture Commission of the Senate De Carlo, drafter of the amendment, and to Mr Nevi and Mr Centinaio. I hope that Italy's shared and unanimous approach can help overcome the delays that currently characterize Brussels' attitude on the matter" concludes Siciliani.
