President of the Consortium for the Protection of Balsamic Vinegar of Modena Mariangela Grosoli: «Today we are celebrating a success that no one would have imagined 30 years ago and that has translated into an important value for our territory and for Modena's international notoriety as a symbol of agrifood excellence»
Thirty years of the Consortium of Balsamic Vinegar of Modena were celebrated on Sunday, April 23 in the halls of the Ducal Palace in Modena by consortium member companies together with important guests from the associational and political-institutional world.
Formed in 1993 with just 12 courageous producers that have now grown exponentially to 49 members, the Consortium of Balsamic Vinegar of Modena has always traveled the road of protection and promotion, as well as the enhancement of this product of excellence of made in Italy, which can certainly be credited with having increased not only the economic well-being of the territory but also the social one, creating jobs and making its production fabric, namely the vinegar factories, even a tourist driver.

The numbers of the sector
In 2021, the sector reached its historical record, with certified production exceeding 100 million liters and more than 1 billion euros in consumption; figures that in 2022 were –5% due to global economic repercussions. 92% of Balsamic Vinegar of Modena production is exported: today the product is marketed in 130 different countries. To the world of Balsamic Vinegar of Modena belong 95 wineries, 47 concentrators, 79 vinegar makers and 174 packers. There are more than 1,000 people employed in the sector. These figures place the product as the top Made in Italy export ambassador and in the top five of Italian PDO and PGI food specialties, alongside Grana Padano DOP, Parmigiano Reggiano DOP, Prosciutto di Parma DOP, and Mozzarella di Bufala Campana DOP.
