During the presentation of the 57th Parmigiano Reggiano Fair (August 4-7) in Casina (RE), the Consortium illustrates the interventions to enhance and support the 81 mountain dairies, which account for more than 21% of total production with 846,000 wheels
Parmigiano Reggiano is confirmed as the most important PDO product obtained in the mountains. According to data provided by the Consortium, in 2022 production in the mountains of the PDO amounted to 846,000 wheels, an increase of +10.5 percent compared to 2016. Double-digit growth (+14%) was also recorded for milk production, with more than 404,000 tons. In addition, Parmigiano Reggiano "Mountain Product," a project launched by the Consortium in 2016 to give greater sustainability to the development of this area of the production zone and offer consumers additional guarantees related to the origin and quality of the cheese, exceeded 225,000 certified wheels in 2021, an increase of +26.6% over 2016.
And it is precisely to enhance and promote the Parmigiano Reggiano "Mountain Product" that the 57th Parmigiano Reggiano Fair in Casina will be held from Friday, August 4 to Monday, August 7: four days of events, shows, tastings and concerts. In particular, as many as 40 mountain dairies will participate in the Fair to present their "jewels," offering tastings with the possibility of purchase to all visitors. Also reconfirmed for 2023 are the special pairings of Parmigiano Reggiano with the Spergola wines of the area and with the wines of Valpolicella, guests of honor in a marriage of flavors that unites two excellences of Italian food and wine.
