Prison sentences and fines for those who sell food with false labelling
Law No. 75 of 2026, which was published in the Official Gazette on 14 May, comes into force on 29 May. The new legislation makes comprehensive amendments to the Criminal Code and the regulations governing the agri-food sector, tightening the rules on false labelling to protect Italian agri-food products and consumers: it will, in fact, be a criminal offence to market food products with labels bearing false or misleading information.
