This is the view of Graziana Grassini, one of Italy’s pioneering female oenologists, who was recently awarded the title of Knight of the Order of Merit of the Italian Republic for her contribution to improving the quality of the national wine sector.
With a vision deeply rooted in her knowledge of the vine and its natural processes, Grassini emphasises how changing climatic conditions have also influenced the characteristics of red wines. “Climate change has had tangible effects on the vine and on the ripening of the grapes: today, compared to the past, many red wines have softer tannins, greater harmony on the palate and a structure that successfully combines complexity and freshness.”
