Prosciutto di Modena PDO: 20% increase in legs sent into production by 2024

Growth in pre-sliced (+6.5%). Good exports

20, Mar 2025

Prosciutto di Modena PDO continues to demonstrate its resilience and prestige in the Italian gastronomic panorama with a significant increase, equal to +20%, compared to 2023, in the number of legs started up for production. In fact, 37,746 branded hams started production in 2024, compared to 31,486 in 2023, for a production value of around 4 million euro.

As far as sales are concerned, there was a drop from 47,533 units in 2023 to 34,271 in 2024, a reduction of 28%. This drop was caused firstly by the increase in the cost of raw materials, due to the spread of PSA, which significantly reduced the amount of available goods, and secondly by other global economic factors impacting the food sector.

Positive data is that represented by the production of pre-sliced trays, which saw an increase of 6.5%, from 642,704 in 2023 to 683,788 in 2024, testimony to the fact that consumers continue to move towards this type of consumption.

Exports of Modena Ham PDO remain stable, with a share of between 7% and 8%, with the United States confirming itself as the leading partner in the foreign market. «This figure is a positive sign demonstrating that our product continues to gain recognition and appreciation at an international level» comments the President of the Consortium Giorgia Vitali.
