The international jury, consisting of 264 experts from 38 countries, awarded the National Parmesan Cheese Team 137 medals, 3 of them Super Gold
Nazionale del Parmigiano Reggiano won 137 medals, an absolute record in the group’s history, and reconfirmed the PDO as the most awarded cheese at the World Cheese Awards, the world’s leading international cheese competition held this year in Trondheim, Norway. In particular, the international jury, made up of 264 experts from 38 countries, awarded Parmigiano Reggiano 3 Super Gold medals: to Fior di Latte (Bologna), Fratelli Rastelli (Parma), which ranked 10th in the final phase (first among Italians, chosen among the top 16 and therefore evaluated by the Super Jury), and to Sant’Angelo (Bologna).
This year, the National Parmesan Cheese Team was composed of 99 dairies from the five provinces of the area: Parma, Reggio Emilia, Modena, Bologna (to the left of the Reno river), and Mantua (to the right of the Po river). A group effort that yielded 137 awards: 3 Super Gold (best cheese on the table), 27 gold medals, 44 silver and 63 bronze. To these must be added the 13 medals (4 gold, 2 silver and 7 bronze) awarded to dairies that entered the competition independently, bringing the PDO to a total of 150 medals.
