In the splendid setting of Palazzo Colonna in Rome, Italian and international representatives and stakeholders linked to the fishing sector, institutions, ambassadors from different nations of the world, fishing entrepreneurs, researchers, experts in the sector gathered with a common purpose: to talk about cooperation internationally to pursue sustainable fishing, which safeguards the environment and at the same time can continue to support coastal communities on a social and economic level.
The international round table entitled “Fishery and Aquaculture: sustainability and international cooperation” was organized and promoted by Federpesca, in collaboration with the Federation of the Sea and Planet Diplomacy.
“We are open to building new partnerships, as we believe that cooperation is a pillar of the sustainable development of the fishing and aquaculture sector and for the protection and restoration of our oceans and seas” - declared the Director of Federpesca, Francesca Blond. “Promoting sustainable and coordinated management of the fishing sector at an international level means valorising in economic terms the wealth of resources that the sea offers us, with all the resulting repercussions on the well-being of communities, on employment, on the income conditions of families and businesses, on food security, therefore the sustainability of the development of each country" concluded Director Biondo.
The round table was attended by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, Aics, Unido, FAO, Ifad, Ice, Cluster Big, Luiss business school and representatives of the embassies of South Africa, Oman, Spain, Malta, Thailand, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka , Tanzania, Mozambique, Australia, Angola, as well as various companies and startups in the sector.
At the opening, the Hon Procaccini, European Parliamentarian and member of the Delegation for relations with the countries of South Asia and the President of the Sea Federation Mario Mattioli intervened with a video greeting.
Projects, initiatives, innovative technologies, future events were discussed during the round table. Sharing these good practices has brought out even more the shared objective of safeguarding our marine resources and communities that live from fishing, an objective that can only be achieved through cooperation, since seas and oceans make us interdependent.
