Legacoop Agroalimentare praises the Ministry of Agriculture's recent initiatives to support the fishing and aquaculture sector.
"Concrete signals from the Ministry for Fishing; now we need continuity to support the sector."
Cristian Maretti (President of Legacoop Agroalimentare): "These are measures long-awaited by businesses and are the result of ongoing discussions with industry representatives. These measures help provide breathing space to a sector that continues to experience significant economic pressure."
ROME, July 23, 2026 – Legacoop Agroalimentare appreciates the recent measures implemented by the Ministry of Agriculture to support the fishing and aquaculture sector. From the tax credit on diesel fuel to the payment of applications for fishing bans, to the rescheduling of Feampa's financial plans that will allow the implementation of measure 5.68, Legacoop Agroalimentare President Cristian Maretti recognizes the ministry's work in providing concrete responses to businesses' needs.
"I would like to express our appreciation to the Ministry for its attention to the fishing sector. These are measures long-awaited by businesses and are the result of ongoing discussions with industry representatives. These measures help provide relief to a sector that continues to experience significant economic pressure," states Maretti.
Particular satisfaction is expressed for the €10 million tax credit earmarked for diesel purchases by fishing businesses, an allocation that has proven adequate to meet the needs of the requests submitted.
"We welcome this measure," Maretti continues, "because it represents a concrete response to one of the main challenges businesses continue to face. The €10 million allocation has proven sufficient and demonstrates the government's willingness to support the sector. At the same time, we cannot forget that fuel costs remain one of the main factors in the economic vulnerability of Italian fishing. For this reason, we hope that the government will continue to pay close attention in the coming weeks and months, continuing to monitor price trends and preparing, if necessary, additional support tools."
The situation regarding the fishing ban is also positive. As of February 27, 2026, 1,681 applications had been received for the 2024 fishing ban; of these, 1,406 have already been processed and placed on the ranking list, while 731 applications have already been processed. Furthermore, the call for applications for the 2025 fishing ban was signed on July 1, while all the required ranking lists have been adopted for the permanent ban.
"We are also seeing significant acceleration in the fishing ban," emphasizes Maretti. "The progressive advancement of the ranking lists and payments represents a positive sign for businesses, which are awaiting crucial resources to ensure business continuity. It is important to proceed swiftly until the liquidations are completed."
Legacoop Agroalimentare also welcomes the reorganization of Feampa's financial plans, agreed upon between the Ministry and the Regions, which will enable the implementation of Measure 5.68, aimed at both fishing and aquaculture companies, with a budget of approximately €70 million.
"Measure 5.68 represents a significant opportunity to strengthen the competitiveness of fishing and aquaculture companies," concludes Maretti. "The collaboration between the Ministry and the Regions has enabled us to identify significant resources that can support investments and support the sector through a complex period. This demonstrates that institutional dialogue produces concrete results when the shared goal is to ensure the future and development of Italian blue economy companies."
Finally, the Ministry is working to provide adequate funding for the National Solidarity Fund for Fishing and Aquaculture pursuant to Legislative Decree 154/04.
