Orapesce: Intesa Sanpaolo enters the capital

The bank grants the Romagna-based start-up a €500,000 convertible loan

27, Jul 2023

Orapesce, the fish delivery startup from Romagna, continues its growth path thanks to Intesa Sanpaolo, which believed in the project with an investment of 500 thousand euros and the possibility for the bank to enter the company's share capital.

In fact, the transaction falls within the scope of "Convertibile Impresa", a medium-long term loan up to a maximum of 500 thousand euros created by Intesa Sanpaolo to meet the financing needs of the start-up or development plans of innovative startups operating already in a Venture Capital context, with the possibility of increasing one's share capital by envisaging the entry of new shareholders, including the option of converting the loan from the bank into a shareholding in the company.

Specifically, the loan, which will have a duration of seven years, will be aimed at implementing Orapesce's multi-channel strategy by continuing to update the ICT platform (ecommerce site, CRM) and building a catering format capable of completing the fish consumption experience even with solutions ready to be eaten by final consumers.

Orapesce, with operations center in Rimini and registered office in Verona, which connects the fishing cooperatives of the mid-Adriatic who practice sustainable fishing, was included last April by Intesa Sanpaolo among the startups selected for Elite Lounge and Up2Stars: paths of acceleration dedicated to new Italian entrepreneurial realities with a high innovation content.

“Orapesce was born to be an innovative solution within the fish sector, building a digital fish supply channel for Italian families, with clarity on price, origin and conservation methods: we have made a fish experience unique purchase - explains Giacomo Bedetti, president of Orapesce -. With the support of Intesa Sanpaolo we will accelerate our path also by building an asset in the catering sector, making our service distinctive also with a physical format to complement the digital one, also laying the foundations for the internationalization process".

“Intesa Sanpaolo's mission includes the will to support new projects and, above all, those with a high innovation content, of which Orapesce is an example of excellence - comments Alessandra Florio, regional director of Emilia-Romagna and Marche of Intesa Sanpaolo -. It is essential to support the growth of startups by facilitating their access to investors, client companies and banking products and services, an aim that the Group successfully pursues also through its Up2Stars enhancement programme. It is no coincidence that to date around 30% of startups and 50% of innovative Italian SMEs have seized the opportunities, including non-financial ones, that we are able to offer".
