“In line with the commitment we made to the fishermen of Lake Garda, we are taking action to address one of the main issues currently affecting the lake and its ecosystem. The catfish is an invasive species that puts pressure on the native fish population and disrupts the lake’s natural balance.”
The Regional Councillor for Fisheries, Dario Bond, has announced the Veneto Regional Council’s approval of a €100,000 funding scheme to support professional fishing businesses operating on Lake Garda that intend to develop catfish fishing, an invasive alien species whose numbers have grown significantly in recent years, with repercussions for the balance of the lake’s ecosystem and for fishermen’s livelihoods.
