The Iberian government criticises the Commission's proposal that 'demonises trawling'
There is disagreement between Spain and other European countries regarding the European Commission's proposal for an action plan for the conservation of fisheries resources. The discontent was expressed by the Spanish Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food, Luis Planas.
The Iberian government representative underlined the need for the Commission to carry out "an in-depth analysis of the situation of Community fisheries, with a real strategic focus on the future of the fisheries sector, before drawing up any plan". Planas informed the autonomous communities of the position that Spain will take on the Commission's package of fisheries proposals at the Council of EU agriculture and fisheries ministers, scheduled for next Monday, 20 March.
