The long-awaited green light has arrived from the EU to the extension for another three years which will allow Italy to fish until the end of 2025 the bivalve mollusc Venus - commonly known as "lupine clam" - with a size of 22 millimeters, against 25 millimeters imposed in the rest of Europe.

“A great result that recognizes the commitment of the consortia for the sustainable management and protection of the marine resource, demonstrating that when Italy works together, battles can be won. Just a month ago we were all in Brussels for an important meeting of Italian parliamentarians with the Co.ge.vo. and the fishermen's associations to ask that, in the light of scientific data, the derogation from the minimum size be made structural" - declared the Director of Federpesca, Francesca Biondo. “Today we celebrate a result that was possible thanks to the great commitment of the Hon. Rosanna Conte and all the Italian parliamentarians in the Fisheries Commission whom we thank for the work done aimed at giving more certainty to Italian fishing companies and to protect an excellence of Made in Italy." - concludes the Director Biondo.

Now we will have to wait for December 22, the official deadline, before celebrating, as has already been done in the past: this would be the third battle won for the clam exemption.
