McDonald's sues US meat giants in antitrust proceedings

Tyson Foods, Cargill, Jbs and National Beef accused of forming a cartel

14, Oct 2024

McDonald's has filed a lawsuit against four of the giants among beef producers in the United States: they are Cargill, JBS, National Beef and Tyson Foods. The accusation is that they formed a secret cartel to manipulate meat prices, violating antitrust laws. More precisely, according to the lawsuit filed in a New York federal court, McDonald's alleges that since 2015, the named meat producers have deliberately reduced the supply of cattle to keep prices high. They have, in effect, manipulated the market by reducing production capacity, closing plants and limiting operating hours.
