The new European Commission is a reality. The composition of the executive announced this morning by President Ursula von der Leyen - in her second term at the helm of the EU - sees confirmations such as that of Latvian Valdis Dombrovskis at Economy and Productivity, who will also get the delegation for Implementation and Simplification.
Among the new European Commissioners (16 men and 11 women, including the president), however, new entries prevail. One above all: the Italian Raffaele Fitto, who leaves his position as Minister for European Affairs, the South, Cohesion Policies and for the NRP in the Meloni government to take on the dual role of Executive Vice-President for Cohesion and Reforms. An appointment, that of Fitto, which thus confirms the rumours of recent days.
The new Commissioner for Agriculture and Food will be Christophe Hansen, who, von der Leyen stressed, ‘will have the task of bringing the report and recommendations of the Strategic Dialogue to life’ and ‘on the basis of the Strategic Dialogue will develop a Vision for Agriculture and Food in the first 100 days of his mandate’.
