Just a few hourse before the 2025 World Butchers’ Challenge, the captains of 14 nations squared off in Paris, ahead of their bid to be crowned the world’s best.
In a pre-game clash of strength and spirit, Germany’s reigning champions went head-to-head with host nation France - not with knives, but in an arm wrestle between captains Dirk Freyberger (Germany) and Christophe Ip Yan Fat (France). The friendly rivalry set the tone for what promises to be a high-stakes competition, with Germany claiming the first unofficial victory of the weekend.
World Butchers’ Challenge CEO, Ashley Gray says anticipation is at an all-time high:
"The energy in Paris on the eve of the Challenge is electric. Some teams are hungry for their first victory, others are determined to defend their title, and new nations are ready to make their mark. We can’t wait to see the competition unfold and wish all the competitors the best of luck."
Today Monday 31 March, the culinary capital of the world, Paris will host 14 nations for the ninth World Butchers’ Challenge at Paris Arena Sud 6, part of the Paris Expo Exhibition Centre.

The three-hour WBC challenge will see each team demonstrate their superior carving, boning and finishing skills - underpinned by their own creative and cultural flair.
The winning team will be awarded the coveted Friedr. Dick Golden Knife Trophy at a Gala dinner on Tuesday 1 April in Paris.
Ahead of the headline event, the World Champion Butcher Apprentice & Young Butcher Competitions will kick off on Sunday 30 March.
