Assocarni Assembly. Cremonini: ‘Break free from beef imports from France

Since 2010, the Italian self-supply rate has fallen from 58% to 40%.

The Italian livestock system is confirmed as the most sustainable in the entire European Union. In fact, our breeders contribute to the stability of the territory with their protections, which are essential to avoid hydrogeological disasters. It is always the breeders who have significantly invested in renewable sources, starting with photovoltaics, also drawing on animal waste as sources of biogas. This and much more emerged during the annual meeting of Assocarni, held today in Rome on the theme "The Italian livestock supply chain tested by current market and agricultural policy scenarios".

The president of Assocarni Serafino Cremonini placed particular emphasis on the need to relaunch the autonomy of our livestock sector: if in 2010, the Italian self-sufficiency rate was 58%, today it has fallen to 40% and this represents "an alarming figure for the food sovereignty of our country. In this regard, Cremonini launched a series of proposals to the government, first of all "to provide resources in favor of the cow-calf line so as to free ourselves, at least partially, from imports of live animals from France, improving the trade deficit". At the same time, the president of Assocarni hoped for "resources to favor generational turnover and the entry of young people into agriculture".
