UNICEB - the African Swine Fever problem must be tackled in a coordinated manner

What is needed is a coordinated action of all the forces engaged on this front that also involves the representatives of the supply chain

03, Mar 2023

The steady increase in outbreaks of African swine fever on our territory is becoming more worrying by the day. If the epidemic were to reach the areas with the highest density of pig farms and slaughtering and processing plants, the damage would be incalculable with production stoppages and consequent devastating economic and social impacts. What is needed is a coordinated action of all the forces engaged on this front that also involves the representatives of the supply chain,' UNICEB, which represents breeders, slaughterers and processors of the pig industry, states in a press release.

For this reason, we have urgently requested the setting up of a 'joint supply chain table' at which the extraordinary commissioner for the PSA (?), the Ministry of Health, the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Sovereignty, the Forest Guard, and the various representatives of the supply chain can sit, within which they can organically analyse and share the actions to be put in place in the immediate future to avert any scenario that, as of today, the national companies do not even want to hypothesise.
