UNICEB has weighed in on the debate surrounding proposed legislation aimed at banning the slaughter and consumption of horse meat in Italy, highlighting the economic, cultural and traditional importance of the sector.

The sector involves numerous small and medium-sized enterprises and represents a historic gastronomic niche, rooted in many regional traditions. Some dishes – such as sfilacci padovani, pezzetti salentini, polpette pugliesi and caval pist parmense – are recognised by MASAF as traditional agri-food products.
