Exhibition of the great American photographer on the occasion of the 93rd edition of the White Truffle Fair
The City of Alba reveals the first image of Steve McCurry's photographic project who, in September, carried out a shooting in the area. The series of shots will become part of the permanent exhibition created for the Truffle Museum of Alba, whose opening is scheduled for October 14th.
The exhibition created specifically for the museum itself will be produced as part of the setting up of the Truffle Museum by the City of Alba, with the coordination and collaboration of the National Truffle Studies Center and the contribution of the Piedmont Region, in addition to the involvement of the DMO Visit Piedmont.
In the context of the 93rd edition of the International Alba White Truffle Fair, the shots of the famous American photographer will enrich the city's cultural proposal as a corollary of the event. The exhibition, entitled "Truffle hunters and their dogs", will depict portraits of truffles from all the provinces of the region, with the entire Piedmont represented. The curatorship of the Steve McCurry exhibition, represented in Italy exclusively by the Sudest 57 agency in Milan, is entrusted to Maurizio Beucci.
The Mudet, Alba Truffle Museum has its roots in the Cortile della Maddalena, in the heart of the city where the International Alba White Truffle Fair takes place every autumn. The museum is spread over 530 m2: the ten rooms, divided into 4 thematic areas, include a laboratory space and tell the story of the world of truffles through 140 meters of graphic illustrations, multimedia devices and the collection of over fifty thematic objects on display.
Steve McCurry has been one of the most iconic figures in contemporary photography for over fifty years. Born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he studied filmmaking at Pennsylvania State University before starting to work for a newspaper. Two years later, he made the first of what would become numerous trips to India. After several months of travel he crossed the border into Pakistan: in a small village, he met a group of refugees from Afghanistan, who secretly let him cross the border, just as the Russian invasion was closing the country to Western journalists .
McCurry has been honored with some of the industry's most prestigious awards, including the Robert Capa Gold Medal: most recently, the Royal Photographic Society of London awarded him the Centenary Lifetime Achievement Medal, and in 2019 he was inducted into the International Photography Hall of Fame.
The Alba Truffle Museum will open on 14 October 2023. It will be open every day from 10am to 7pm, with last entry at 6.30pm. The Museum ticket is valid for the whole day, it is not necessary to book and costs 5 Euros: entry is free for people under the age of 15 and disabled people.

It is extraordinary news for Alba, for its territory and for the 93rd edition of the Truffle Fair which has always offered initiatives of profound cultural relevance, but above all it is an element that will further enrich the city's varied offer".
